After flying high against Southmont on Wednesday, Greencastle came back down to earth. The Tiger Cubs took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the South Vermillion Wildcats on Thursday. The loss didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: South Vermillion scored at least 19 points in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 25-21, 25-27, 25-19. Greencastle's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sophia Gooch, who had 23 digs, 10 kills, and two aces. Another player making a difference was Ella Endersby, who had 34 assists and 14 digs. Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead South Vermillion to victory, but perhaps none more so than Olivia Thomas, who had 21 digs, 18 kills, two aces, and a solo block. Kaya Kelley was another key player, getting 26 digs and 10 kills. Greencastle's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. Wins have been accumulating steadily for South Vermillion, who have claimed victory in five of their first six contests to sit at 5-1. Coming up, Greencastle will be taking part in a tournament against Mooresville Christian at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for South Vermillion, they will head out to square off against Terre Haute South Vigo at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
