The Greencastle Tiger Cubs won their 4th consecutive Sectional Championship at Harrison Hills G&CC on Friday. The Cubs were led by Conner Taylor who shot a solid 75 on the hilly and tight golf course, he was second low scorer behind a great 18 hole score of 65 by Peyton Snoberger of Seeger. Jaxon and Benton Parmley both shot 80 and rounding out the top four scorers was Tyler Rodgers with a 92 for a good score of 327. Vincent Martoglio was the 5th player for the Cubs and he shot a 117. Vincent had an off day from his previous scores.
Our top three players played a very consistent 18 holes from front nine to back nine, the difference was the good play of Tyler as he shot 8 shots better than his nine hole average throughout the season. Harrrison Hills plays like two different courses; the front nine is open with few obstacles, but the back nine is very tree lined, narrow and difficult. You try to make your score on the front and then try to hang on and not let the score get away from you. We did exactly what we needed to do and hung on for an 11 shot victory. This is a very satisfying win for this young and inexperienced team. Improvement was evident throughout the season and we peaked today. This was Jaxon’s 4th sectional championship and the most championships in recent Tiger Cub history for a single player. Conner now has three and Benton two. Our freshman have worked hard and their improvement has been evident the last month of the season. The future looks good for the four returning players and returning letter winner Lathen Worman. Jaxon’s leadership and experience will be missed next year.

Next Match: Regional Championship at Country Oaks GC in Washington, Ind on Thursday June 6 at 9:20 am with winner from Crispus Attucks, and 2nd place teams from Linton-Stockton and Vincennes Lincoln sectionals.
