The Greencastle Lady Tiger Cubs Soccer Team picked up a 1st round win at the Crawfordsville Sectional vs Danville. The Tiger Cubs scored with 2 minutes remaining in the 2nd overtime when Kennedy Trigg broke through the Danville defense to beat the goalkeeper.
The Tiger Cubs played a strong defensive game tonight to earn the shutout. Led by Goalkeeper Gillian Monnett who made 10 saves. The back line of Catherine Weeks, Zoe Weltz, Neva Brown, Elise Lausee, Kaitlyn Dibble, Fiona Good and Sydney Anderson held a quick Danville team in check.
“All season we have focused on playing with relentless effort, that came together tonight. We didn’t play our best game in the midfield or up front, but our defensive effort kept us in it. Big defensive plays in then midfield and good rotation in the back were key,” said Coach Scott Monnett. “Danville did a good job defending our attack. We controlled time of possession, but just could not mount a good attack. The play of our midfielders and forwards in the overtime was huge. They rose to the challenge when it was needed.”
Greencastle advances to play North Montgomery on Thursday at 5:00 pm. The game will be held at Crawfordsville High School.
