The GHS Lady Tiger Cubs Soccer Team beat a feisty North Montgomery team Thursday night 6-3. Following two 1st half goals by the Chargers the Tiger Cubs scored 3 unanswered to close out the half. “A couple defensive break downs and bad individual plays on the ball put us down early, but we responded offensively,” Coach Monnett said. The Tiger Cub outshot their opponent 25 to 5 in the first half, taking many high quality shots. In the second half, following a penalty kick goal from Northmont the Tiger Cubs defense took over and shut down the Chargers while offensively they added 3 more goals. “We knew Northmont was going to come in ready to play. In the second half we responded, our defensive unit stepped up and shut them down. I am extremely proud of the grit we showed tonight.”
The Tiger Cubs were led defensively by Zoe Weltz, Neva Brown, Abbie Beauchamp, Sydney Anderson, Lily Richardson, and Elise Lausee. Goalkeeper Gillian Monnett recorded 10 saves.
Offensively Kennedy Trigg scored three goals adding 1 assist, Katie White 1 goal & 2 assists, Sydney Doan 1 goal & 1 assist, and Evie Briones added 1 goal & 1 assist.
“We outshot them 37 to 15 tonight, and came back from and early deficit. Every game is an opportunity to learn and get better, we’re healthy overall and 21 players saw varsity field time tonight. We’re heading in the right direction.”
The Junior Varsity team won their second game in a row also with a 1-0 victory. Carissa Trigg scores the line goal. Goalkeeper Bella Monnett recorded 3 saves in the shutout.
The Tiger Cubs are back in action at home this Saturday at 3 pm vs Conference opponent Owen Valley.
