The 2020 Soccer Season kicked off last night for the GHS Girls Soccer Team with a loss to Preseason Poll 16th ranked Tri-West, 10-1. The Tiger Cubs played better than the score indicated according to Coach Scott Monnett. “This is a tough first game. TriWest is well coached and skilled on the ball. We knew their attacking ability would test us defensively. We will see them again during sectionals and now we know what we need to improve in over the next 15 games.”

The Tiger Cubs lone goal was scored on a penalty kicked from Kennedy Trigg.

For the season the Tiger Cubs expect to see a lot of success on the field. Returning 20 of 22 players from 2019 with a strong nucleous of 12 seniors leadership and physical advantage will be strengths. In addition, the Cubs added 9 freshmen and 3 upperclassmen allowing them to field a JV team for the first time in over 5 years. The 2020 Captains are Sydney Doan, Kennedy Trigg, Neva Brown and Zoe Weltz. “Our goals are very high this season, we expect to win a lot of games and contend for a WIC Conference Championship once again, with the ultimate goal of challenging for a Sectional Title at the end of the year. Between now and then we still need to gel on the field. With the short off season, we didn’t get to spend the time we needed to fine tune some things. We will come together, and when we do we will be tough to beat.”

The Tiger Cubs will play next on Monday, 8/24 at 5:30 vs. Crawfordsville.
