JV results from 02/06/2014:
The Greencastle Boy’s JV basketball team traveled to Monrovia Thursday and came out on the short end of a 43-35 score. Both teams opened the contest employing aggressive full-court pressure and neither offense could get on track. The Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead before the Tiger Cubs battled back and trailed by 4 at the end of the first quarter 10-6. Both teams continued the defensive pressure in the second period with Monrovia scoring 4 quick points late to take a 16-13 lead into the break.
Coming out strong in the third quarter, the young Tiger Cubs quickly cut into the lead and trailed by only one, 22-21 at the end of the third quarter. However in the final stanza, Tiger Cub fouls began to mount and the Bulldogs scored 21 points in the quarter, 11 from the charity stripe.
Once again Greencastle forced many turnovers (26) and had numerous deflections, but a frigid shooting night eventually led to the defeat. Greencastle shot only 20% for the game and was 0-19 from behind the arc.
Coach Hudson was pleased with the defensive effort, especially that of Jacob Sanders who utilized his long, lanky frame to garner 2 steals off of the press late on the game and also forced many bad passes. Monrovia’s Luke Smith led all scorers with 12 points. Tanner Nicholson led the Tiger Cubs with 9 points and Cole Edgar added 8.
Greencastle (5-5, 4-1 WCC) is back in action Saturday when they host Brown County in McAnally Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00PM.
